Acupuncture for Stroke Prevention, Recovery and Rehabilitation

This weekend course is based on Claudia's PhD research and 14 years of inpatient post-stroke. Historical and contemporary Chinese and Western background are presented, along with a practical manual for clinical decision-making during acute and chronic stroke care.  Also included is a section on stroke prevention and risk factors, as well as financial and logistical practicalities of caring for stroke patients in the outpatient clinic setting.

Clinical Intensive WeEKS in neurological and orthopedic rehabilitation

This total immersion hospital experience integrates didactic material adjusted to students’ current level of practice and individual learning goals.  Students interested in acupuncture for post-stroke care will be trained in a comprehensive approach that integrates historical and contemporary sources, based on Claudia’s PhD work.  Other conditions seen include pain and major trauma, traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury as well as multiple sclerosis, palliative care, and rehabilitation of profound debility.  OM and Western concepts and background are presented, along with a practical manual for clinical decision-making during acute and chronic stroke care.  Depending on student interest, topics such as research methods, presenting to physicians, or hospital-based acupuncture program development may be discussed.
